Call or email Tom to
register.
Tom Turner is conducting a two day demonstration workshop at the
Renaissance Hotel in downtown Asheville on June 26 and 27, 2010.
Having the workshop at the Renaissance puts you right downtown
Asheville with many restaurants, galleries, and shops to visit.
You can leave your car and walk all over downtown, or drive to
beautiful places to visit or dine. |

Contact
www.renaissancehotels.com
for accommodations and information, or call 828-252-8211.
Mention the workshop for room discounts. Asheville is a tourist
destination, rates go up from June until November, so find a
buddy to share a room with and have everything under one roof.
You can also google Asheville for other motels, hotels, and
B&B’s.
The two day workshop will start with visual images that cover 45
years of his pottery, glazes, and kilns; then a discussion of
“what is porcelain”; and then he will demonstrate wedging,
kneading, throwing, designing, trimming, decoration, simple
glaze testing, with discussions about firing. Participants
questions will draw information relative to where they are in
clay. The first day will be making pots and the second day will
be trimming, decorating, and finishing.
Turner has 49 years in clay and almost that many in porcelain.
He has one of the best porcelain bodies available anywhere and
Robin Hopper says, “Thanks for developing this body. I have
already been spreading the word as the best commercially made
throwing porcelain that I have used in 45 years.” Turner’s work
has been in major exhibitions since the 1960’s; work is included
in over 30 books written in 5 countries; and work is in Art
Museums across the United States starting with the National
Museum of American Art at The Smithsonian.
Early registration is encouraged and payment can be made by
check, paypal, or credit card. Mail checks to Tom Turner, PO Box
717, Mars Hill, NC 28754; call with a credit card; or use paypal
at tt@tomturnerporcelain.com. Please include your mailing
address, phone number, and email address. The $200. registration
fee includes the two day workshop and a BBQ dinner at Turner
Lane, “Home of The Giant Jars” on Saturday evening, along with
tours of his Ceramic Art Museum, studio, and school. Your
registration also puts your name in the hat for a brand new
Shimpo Whisper Potter’s Wheel to be given away at the end of
Sunday’s session.
A full schedule will be emailed to you when you pay your
registration fee. You can google directions to Asheville and get
directions to The Renaissance from their website above.
There will be an informal “get together” on Friday evening at
the hotel, demos on Saturday and Sunday. It is guaranteed that
you will receive far more information than you can digest in two
days. The concept is that you take the information home with
you, digest it, and apply it to your work over a long period of
time. Pots and DVD sets will be available for sale at the
workshop and at Turner Lane.
Thank you. |
